The Connection between Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) and the Flu Shot

By August 11, 2017September 24th, 2019No Comments

Is there a connection between the flu shot vaccine and Guillain Barre Syndrome? The answer is yes. While rare, it is real. Guillain Barre Syndrome is a rare disorder in which your body’s immune system attacks your nerves.

The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program was set up to compensate those who have been injured as a result of a vaccine. The Vaccine Injury Table was amended in 2017 and states that if one suffers from Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) with three (3) days and forty-two (42) days of receiving a flu shot, the presumption is that it was caused by the flu vaccine.

Why three (3) days? In theory, it takes time to develop an immune-mediated response to a vaccine. Why forty-two (42)? While arbitrary, the time period where an individual is most at risk seems to decline after six (6) weeks. However, Gold Law Firm, LLC., has been successful in obtaining compensation for injuries beyond this 6 week period.
